Despite its custom built-ins, gorgeous lighting, and antique cabinetry, this Lakewood Ranch Legacy Golf Club home is getting a facelift. The new designs will give the home a golden glow once we complete the remodel. The remodel itself involves the kitchen, the master bath, the pool bath, two small baths, and the office.

The Kitchen

This is a gourmet kitchen, specifically designed for the chef. The remodel won’t take that away, but only add. The antique white cabinetry will be upgraded to Elmwood Custom Cabinetry with a similar white finish and Yorktown door style. The center island countertop will consist of a quartz called Polished Britannica Gold by Cambria. This is a white quartz with flowing, multi-hued streams of copper gold, fog, and translucent greige. It helps bring that golden, warm look to the design. The same quartz will make up the full-height backsplash in the kitchen, as well as all the countertops in the bathrooms.

Special touches include a dark wood-looking vinyl floor in a Moset finish from the Vinyl Deluxe Grand Collection going throughout the main living area. Lastly are the ten beams. These are twelve-foot 6×6 faux wood beams going in the kitchen living area, and office as seen in the render below.

The Master

The master bath has separate vanities, inlaid tiles, a sunken jacuzzi tub with columns, and a walk-in shower. We will remove all the tiles, the existing tub and tub deck, columns, mirrors, cabinetry, and lighting fixtures. The area with the jacuzzi tub will basically remain the same but just have a different look. New columns are going in around a freestanding tub.

The walk-in shower is getting new curved walls. Quartz will again be everywhere here. Quarzo Kandisky will make up the walls, floor, and shower floor. Minnesota Ash porcelain tiles will make up the shower walls. There will also be a single light shaker with frosted glass for the water closet. In the center of this upgrade will be a rustic three-light round wood globe chandelier as seen in the render below.

The Guest Baths

The remaining baths in this Legacy Golf Club home are the pool bath and two small baths. In the pool bath, we’ll be reframing the left side of the shower wall from the half wall to the full height to the ceiling. Tiles include Murano Bianco and Murano Notte. The wall will be pool-blue stacked stone. The countertops will consist of the same Brittanica Gold quartz as the kitchen. The two small baths will consist of these same materials.

Many confuse quartz and quartzite countertops, thinking they’re more similar than different. Actually, they are two very different materials. Let’s dive into what each are and their differences.

Quartzite

Let’s start with quartzite. Quartzite is a natural rock. A quartzite countertop (as seen in the pictures below) begins as sandstone, which undergoes a natural process of heat and pressure and then fused with quartz crystals. Quartzite has a glassy appearance and resembles marble in some cases. This generally desirable appearance has made quartzite one of the most popular countertop materials. Quartzite typically comes in shades of white or light grey.

Quartz

A quartz countertop (as seen in the picture below) is made with the same crystals found in quartzite, but a man-made process binds the crystal with resins, pigments, and other materials like bits of glass. This process results in a more versatile and durable material that comes in a wide variety of colors and designs.

More Differences

The stylistic differences are remarkable too. Quartzite is sometimes mistaken for marble or granite, so if you’re looking for a natural look with movement, you’ll want a quartzite countertop. Quartz can be made to look like any stone though and is offered in many shades and patterns. If you have a specific color or pattern in mind, quartz is the material you’ll want to choose.

Cool Smart Home Features for Your Kitchen & Bath

Another big difference is the care routine and resilience. Quartz is extremely durable so it’s a hard surface that’s non-porous and resistant to chipping, scratching, and bacteria. Quartzite is not as dense as quartz and prone to easily staining in a heavy-use area like the kitchen.

If you love to have several choices and a consistent look to your countertops, the first option might be the material for you. However, if you don’t mind a little upkeep in exchange for a natural appearance, then quartzite will be perfect for you.

Have you been in your home for a while and want to change things up a bit? Or did you just buy a home and aren’t sure what to do with the space? These sorts of questions come up when designing. It typically has to do with how you define your space. The floor plan typically defines areas to help clarify the space. The tendency is to go with those parameters while designing. However, you don’t necessarily need to follow those definitions.

The Multiple Dining Syndrome

For example, there’s the “multiple dining syndrome.” This is having your dining room next to your island, which in turn is next to your breakfast area, which is then right next to your bar. You end up with four spaces right next to each other that all serve the same purpose of being a landing point for eating. Why do you need so many eating spaces so close together?

What tends to happen when they’re all in such tight proximity is that at least one of the spaces typically becomes a drop zone for a vast array of things like mail, laundry, etc. In essence, it becomes a wasted piece of square footage. This is a great reason why changing the floor plan is a good idea.

Change “Repurpose” to “Redefine”

You heard the term “repurpose” as associated with design, but what we propose is to “redefine.” You have a formal dining space you want to keep. Now, you eat your breakfast mostly at the kitchen island, so what should you do with the breakfast nook? Why not make this a sitting area? These areas are typically right next to a bay window or a view of the outdoors.

In conclusion, just because the space says it should be one way doesn’t mean it has to be only that. Redefine and re-purpose to suit your lifestyle!

They start there and customize those images into the design for the client’s space. Those designs are brought into programs and built into 3D models and floor plans to make it even easier for the client to visualize their space, make changes, and nail down all the details.
