Revolutionizing with Technology

Technology has revolutionized various aspects of our lives, and home remodeling is no exception. With its remarkable advancements, technology brings a wide range of benefits to homeowners undertaking remodeling projects. From planning and design to construction and maintenance, here are some ways in which technology proves to be invaluable and helps in transforming home remodeling.

Powerful Tools and Communication

One of the key advantages of technology in home remodeling is the availability of powerful design and visualization tools. With computer-aided design (CAD) software and virtual reality (VR) applications, homeowners can create detailed and accurate 3D models of their desired renovations. This enables them to visualize the end result and make informed decisions about materials, colors, and layouts, ensuring the desired outcome before construction even begins.

home design sketch and actual home

Additionally, technology facilitates effective communication and collaboration among homeowners, architects, contractors, and interior designers. Online project management tools and video conferencing platforms allow for seamless coordination, enabling all stakeholders to stay connected, share ideas, and address any concerns promptly. This leads to better project organization, reduced miscommunication, and ultimately, a smoother remodeling process.

Efficiency and Quality

Furthermore, technology has significantly improved the efficiency and quality of construction. Advanced construction techniques such as prefabrication and modular construction capitalize on automation and robotics, resulting in faster and more precise installations. Smart home technology, including programmable thermostats, energy-efficient appliances, and automated lighting systems, not only enhances convenience but also reduces energy consumption and lowers utility bills.

> A Comprehensive Guide to Remodeling Your Entire Home

During the remodeling process, technology also aids in cost management. With the help of budgeting software and online platforms, homeowners can track expenses, compare prices, and find the best deals on materials and fixtures. This empowers them to make informed financial decisions, stay within budget, and avoid overspending.

Smart Tech

Lastly, technology plays a vital role in home maintenance after remodeling is complete. Smart home devices, such as security systems, leak detectors, and remote-controlled appliances, enhance safety, convenience, and energy efficiency. Moreover, home automation systems enable remote monitoring and control of various aspects of the house, ensuring timely maintenance and minimizing the risk of costly repairs.

Smart fridge

In conclusion, technology offers immense benefits when it comes to remodeling a home. From design and planning to construction, cost management, and maintenance, technology enhances efficiency, accuracy, communication, and convenience throughout the remodeling process. By leveraging these technological tools, homeowners can achieve their dream renovations while enjoying a smoother and more rewarding remodeling experience.

What a Vue

A double penthouse in the Vue Sarasota boasts not only a home theater for any movie fanatic and a wine room guarded by iconic sculptures, but a colorful man cave that blends in perfectly with the unit’s overall Italian garden theme. The homeowner nicknamed this room “the man cave,” a name it rightly deserves. From art collections to an air filtration system designed for the cigar smoker, this man cave is the perfect retreat to lose yourself in.

> Home Design Trends Just For Sarasota Homeowners

A Must See

Entering this man cave, you pass beneath a custom wood design accented on the light steel blue walls. Pushing open the towering custom leather-clad doors, the first thing you see is the artwork. The homeowner here has an extensive collection of items that he enjoys most, including paintings of ocean scenes and nature landscapes. The artwork on display joins a collection of ornamental artifacts and birds. Underfoot is a collection of 20 antique, handmade rugs the homeowner accumulated from around the world.

Man cave with arcade game

Opposite the artwork is a wall of custom cabinetry by Elmwood. A wine bar and TV complete the cabinetry system, which is where the homeowner displays his collection of bird ornaments. Another personalized touch is the video arcade machine. On the screen, you can see the reflection of the floor-to-ceiling windows. Outside is a view of the putting green and outdoor kitchen on the balcony, not to mention the stunning view of Sarasota Bay.

A Room with Two Faces

This Vue Sarasota man cave doubles as a smoking room. This space was designed with a cigar smoker in mind. The room has its own HVAC system and exhaust system, separate from all the other rooms in the unit to keep any cigar smoke from leaking into the rest of the unit. It also has a smoke eater to help purify the air.

> 5 Ideas for a Stylist Man Cave

Rounding out this space is the acoustical ceiling and a single raw column by the window. We decided not to cover this column with any drywall. We wanted to reflect the building structure, a look we kept in the main living space of the unit. Again, this helped create the look of an Italian garden the unit aspired to look like.

Sarasota Inspires

Sarasota is known for its unique home design trends that capture the essence of living near the water. The proximity to the beautiful turquoise and blue waters, along with the top beaches in the world, inspire Sarasota homeowners to bring the colors of the outdoors inside.

By the Beaches

In Sarasota, it is common to see home interiors with shades of blue, sand-tone colors, and warm tones. These are reminiscent of the beautiful beaches in the area. The use of natural materials like white-washed or ash wood, jute, cotton, and limestone adds to the coastal vibe of these homes. The design is often kept simplistic and minimalistic. Also, they sometimes have an open floor plan to give the feeling of flow and to maximize the natural light that pours in.

Coastal bathroom with gray tile and walk in shower

More Unique Trends

Another unique trend in Sarasota is the “upside-down floor plan,” where the bedrooms are on the first floor and the living area is on the second floor. This design allows homeowners to enjoy beautiful water views from the living area while still having privacy in their bedrooms.

Fun chandeliers and sconces are also popular in Sarasota homes. These lighting fixtures add a touch of whimsy to the coastal aesthetic and serve as a statement piece in the room.

> Cabex Construction Awarded Best of SRQ 2023

Lastly, Sarasota homeowners tend to favor light window treatments that allow the natural light to come through and create an ambiance that reflects the beauty of the water and beaches.

White tile shower and yellow painting

How Smart is Your Home?

Technology is big, and it looks like it will continue to get even bigger when it comes to home features. Homeowners are looking for simpler integrated systems that seamlessly and securely work together through a simple app that connect their devices like TVs, home alarm system, and lighting. The need for smart tech doesn’t end there though. Kitchens and bathrooms are popular spaces for an increasing desire of smart home features.

Smart Ovens

What Is a Smart Oven? | Whirlpool

Smart Toilets

Quartz & Quartzite

Many confuse quartz and quartzite countertops, thinking they’re more similar than different. Actually, they are two very different materials. Let’s dive into what each are and their differences.

Quartzite

Let’s start with quartzite. Quartzite is a natural rock. A quartzite countertop (as seen in the pictures below) begins as sandstone, which undergoes a natural process of heat and pressure and then fused with quartz crystals. Quartzite has a glassy appearance and resembles marble in some cases. This generally desirable appearance has made quartzite one of the most popular countertop materials. Quartzite typically comes in shades of white or light grey.

Quartzite Countertop

Quartz

A quartz countertop (as seen in the picture below) is made with the same crystals found in quartzite, but a man-made process binds the crystal with resins, pigments, and other materials like bits of glass. This process results in a more versatile and durable material that comes in a wide variety of colors and designs.

More Differences

The stylistic differences are remarkable too. Quartzite is sometimes mistaken for marble or granite, so if you’re looking for a natural look with movement, you’ll want a quartzite countertop. Quartz can be made to look like any stone though and is offered in many shades and patterns. If you have a specific color or pattern in mind, quartz is the material you’ll want to choose.

Cool Smart Home Features for Your Kitchen & Bath

Another big difference is the care routine and resilience. Quartz is extremely durable so it’s a hard surface that’s non-porous and resistant to chipping, scratching, and bacteria. Quartzite is not as dense as quartz and prone to easily staining in a heavy-use area like the kitchen.

If you love to have several choices and a consistent look to your countertops, the first option might be the material for you. However, if you don’t mind a little upkeep in exchange for a natural appearance, then quartzite will be perfect for you.

Take Advantage of the Holidays

If a kitchen remodel is on your mind, the holidays are a good time to think about exactly what features you want to include. With holiday parties and family get-togethers going on, people may be filling your kitchen. As they do, think about your remodel. Pay attention to what is and what’s not working in your space. This will help you know exactly what you want for your kitchen remodel. To have the holidays inspire your kitchen remodel, here are a few features to think about adding that will make next year’s holiday gatherings more comfortable.

Seating

Lounge seating is good for keeping guests comfortable and out of the way when you’re in the kitchen cooking. Consider installing a window seat or bench. Built-in seating also includes storage for pots and cookie cutters. Adding a lounge seat to a window enhances your kitchen for guests.

Fireplace

Think about designing your kitchen around a fireplace. There’s nothing cozier than a fire at a holiday party. They don’t have to be real fireplaces though. More and more are turning to water vapor fireplaces for that high-end design element with all the modern touches. The technology that powers these fireplaces generates a realistic flame without the threats of a real fire. These designer-friendly fireplaces run on electricity and water and use LED lights to deliver the effect of fire.

Electric fireplace with stone surround

Garbage Built-Ins

It can be annoying trying to do the dishes at a party where the garbage is under the sink, and you constantly must move every time a guest needs to throw out a napkin. Instead, try placing the garbage where guests can easily access it without blocking the sink, stove, or anything else in the kitchen. Locate the garbage and recycling near the end of your island or peninsula so guests don’t have to enter your work area.

Live Well with These Wellness Designs

Coffee Station

Make it convenient for guests to get their own coffee by having the coffee and tea in one spot. This way, guests can feel comfortable brewing their own. A coffee bar is a great built-in to consider when remodeling. A coffee station can also be set up in an existing kitchen using something like a hutch or even a console table.

Speakers & Dimmers

A bright and quiet kitchen might be perfect for the everyday, but parties are definitely the opposite. Lights are dimmed, and music gets turned up. Dimmers are simple to install, and they give good ambience for your party.

Who Shares Your Vision?

It’s ideal to collaborate with a design-build company who reflects your vision, style, and personality when you take on an exciting remodel. Cabex Construction masters the art of renovation by designing fully custom, breathtaking homes you truly must see to believe (one such home increased the value of the west side of the Country Club, but more about that in a minute).

Raising home values since 2007, Cabex Construction is your remodeling specialist capable of handling every aspect of your project from the luxurious design to the actual craftsmanship. The result? An extravagant living space designed for even the most eclectic homeowner.

A Question for Cabex: What Can I Expect a Designer to Ask Me?

There are some common questions we like to ask our clients. How do you want to use your space? What is the overall goal with the remodel? Do you want low maintenance or high-end materials for the finished product? These questions make sure we’re steering the design conversation in the right direction.

One-Stop-Shop

As a licensed contractor (CBC1263965) and design-build firm, Cabex Construction is there for you every step of the way. Cabex is a one-stop remodel company from the design work, architectural work, engineering, all the way to the custom build-out.

Gray bathroom

A Question for Cabex: What is the Most Important Advice a Designer Can Give?

The best advice we can give through the design process is to really be open to suggestions and ideas that pull you outside the box. That’s really going to add an extra level of design and service to your space and to your design. In short, have fun!

At the beginning of the design process, the designers at Cabex Construction like to tell their clients to bring inspiration photos. They start there and customize those images into the design for the client’s space. Those designs are brought into programs and built into 3D models and floor plans to make it even easier for the client to visualize their space, make changes, and nail down all the details.

Kitchen with island and open floor plan

A Question for Cabex: What Remodel Adds the Most Value?

If we had to choose one area to upgrade to add the most value, we would say start with the kitchen. If you think about it, the kitchen is where you spend a lot of your time, right? Why not invest in an area you’re going to be entertaining in and spending time with family?

Standing Out in the Sarasota Crowd

Owner and CEO Joe Menna explains how Cabex Construction stands out from other remodeling companies in Sarasota and Bradenton.

“When you come to us and we give you a price, we’re hard pricing it,” Menna says, “so the difference is we’re not giving you allowances. We’re working with you to make all the selections so that when we come to the table and give you a price, it’s from everything we picked out for your space. We’re also doing all the drawings and then we’re putting it all into the contract so that everyone knows what’s happening up front. Because of this, we’re able to eliminate as many questions as possible.”

The Best Flooring Options

A Question for Cabex: What is Your Favorite Design Trend This Year?

So many Florida homeowners are looking for a unique fireplace element. The only difference with these fireplaces is that they’re purely for ambience and have no heat. These water vapor fireplaces run on electricity and water and use LED lights to deliver the effect of fire.

Pretty Close to Perfect

Eliminating questions during design helps the entire project, even during construction, run smoothly. The result is a near-perfection remodel, much like the Country Club home mentioned earlier (pictured below). When Cabex completed this home in 2018 prior to the current market boom, the entire west side of the Country Club increased in value.

Modern kitchen with island

That’s the kind of quality you can expect from Cabex Construction, and that high-end quality comes with the right investment in your home. To that point, Menna says, “Don’t be scared of a larger investment if that means your project will be done right in the end. Invest in a reputable company to really give yourself the good quality that will make your home shine for years to come.”

A Question for Cabex: What are You Most Excited About in Your Showroom?

We just added a new collection of natural quartz in our showroom. Natural quartz is a favorite for homeowners because of its high-glamour styles, eclectic color choices, and life-long durability.

Looking for inspiration for your own upgrade? Visit our 3,000-square foot showroom at 5682 Fruitville Road or give us a call at (941) 780-7800 to book a complimentary design session with one of our designers. A Dynamic Design

If you’re looking for a design feature for a dynamic factor for your home, consider a live edge wood element. “Live edge” refers to the natural edge left on a piece of wood. Instead of the sharp, clean lines in more traditional wooden elements, live edge keeps the natural beauty of the tree. Other natural characteristics of the wood like knots and cracks usually remain  the way they are as additional features of the live edge. These designs help bring the outdoors into your home.

Unique & Diverse

Live edge is very diverse. You can do so many things with it. Here at Cabex, we use live edge for shelving, kitchen countertops, and even 400-pound closet barn doors. Live edge wood is also great for desks, bar tops, coffee tables, and wood art.

> Nominate Cabex for Herald-Tribune Readers’ Choice 2023

This wood is uniquely crafted by hand, including coating, staining, and finishing. There aren’t any changes made to the original look and texture of the wood, but they fill in the knots so that the surface is even.

> Cabex Project with Live Edge Wood at the Ritz

Work of Art

The term “one man’s trash is another man’s treasure” applies here when it comes to live edge. It’s made from discarded wood. When thrown out wood is used to create a work of art, everyone benefits, including the environment. This is because live edge furniture is not made from freshly cut down trees, but from trees already cut down. With nature as a trending inspiration, many homeowners love this live edge look.

Concrete looking condos

So Natural

Wood can’t get any more natural than live edge. Once they cut the bark, the underneath of the wood is exposed; live edge wood leaves the lines intact, leaving the wood in its raw and organic form. Each piece has its own unique style.

> Who Will Design Your Space?

Not many know about the uniqueness of live edge, but it’s gaining popularity with designers who are excited to incorporate it into their designs. More homeowners want that natural, unique design style, and live edge is exactly that.

Floor to Floor at the Ritz

At the west end of Fruitville Road is the towering new Ritz-Carlton Residences. It’s the epitome of luxury living, but did you know the interior of these condo units don’t exactly look all that luxurious when they’re newly built? That’s why the homeowners contact design-build companies to come in and create the final extraordinary touches to their homes. This is what we recently did for two separate units in the Ritz. Both designs involve luxurious, custom fireplaces with water vapor fire. Step on the private elevator with us as we start on the fourth floor and end on the 14th floor as we take a look at our various build-out projects.

Let the Holidays Inspire Your Kitchen Remodel

The 4th Floor: Emerald Ocean

We start our ascent up the Ritz Residences with our first project on the fourth floor. A luxury electric fireplace is the new eye-catching centerpiece in the living room.

Green stone around fireplace

Surrounded by luxurious Emerald Green Quartzite, this particular one of our custom fireplaces sits between two stacks of floating shelves that have LED strip lights to provide a milky glow above two heaps of fire-ready logs (which of course is purely for decorative purposes as the fireplace is electric).

The 14th Floor: Fire & Ice

Four flights higher is a unit showcasing our final project we recently completed in the Ritz. The electric fireplace returns here but in two separate places. What was a bare wall in the living room is now a modern floating fireplace surround constructed out of Venetian plaster. The interior of the fireplace is painted flat black.

Concrete-look fireplace surround overlooking cityscape

The same icy fireplace surround is in the den. There are a couple of additional touches here though. The floating shelves are Elmwood Custom Cabinetry with a bright white aqua gloss finish. 3D decorative wall panels were installed on the back wall above the fireplace. These wall panels run from corner to corner and from the top of fireplace to the bottom of the soffit, finishing out one of the most beautiful custom fireplaces we’ve designed.
