Cabex CEO Emphasizes Necessity of Company Retreats

Five Days, Six Houses, One Company

After a difficult year due to COVID-19 and supply shortages, Joe Menna, owner and CEO of Cabex Construction, knew a break from the stress and hardships of 2021 was much needed. Menna’s solution? A retreat to Key West.

“I really thought everyone in the company deserved a nice break,” Menna says, “so we shut the company down for five days and took everyone to the Keys for a little reprieve. I rented a compound with six houses and a pool. It was just about everyone having fun and not worrying about the phones.”

A Powerful Tool

As the economy continues to recover, more and more businesses are showing an increasing interest in using company retreats to enhance communication, morale, and job-related skills among employees. Company retreats have become a powerful tool that business owners are using to improve employer-employee relations. As Menna believes, the employees really are the heart of the company after all.

“When you take care of your employees and keep them happy,” Menna says, “the result is happy clients. When you take care of your employees, they’ll take care of you. In turn, they take care of your clients.”

Regarding company retreats, Menna says they are great for team building. “We all work together here at Cabex. It takes an entire team to create the top quality remodels that we do. Doing these team building events every once in a while is great for company atmosphere.”

Boosting Employee Morale

Because of the pandemic, more firms have been adopting remote work practices. Companies are realizing they can get their work done just as well outside of an office, but without that face-to-face time between employees and employers, the company culture can suffer. Those in-person, out-of-office retreats are almost a necessity now, and that doesn’t mean taking your team just down the street.

“Everyone does local stuff all the time,” Menna, Cabex CEO, explains. “In order to make an impact, the retreat needs to be out of town. We are blessed to live in Florida and have something like Key West as a retreat to go to where you literally feel like you went to a totally different country.”

Menna agrees company retreats are a vital part of a business to improve employee morale, work on better communicating, and offer the opportunity for valuable training. With the positive feedback he’s received from his company’s retreat, Menna can’t be more thankful for the recharge and the outlook he and his employees now have for the new year.

“We are more than ready for 2022. Things are looking a lot better in the industry. Employment is getting better too. We are going to take the bull by the horns in 2022.”
