Should You Expect Seasonal Home Design Trends?

Designing and Designing

Interior designers design and renovate interiors, from drawing up initial floor plans to placing the last decorative accent, all while enhancing the function of a room. Interior decorators help clients decide on a style, choose color schemes, purchase furniture, and accessorize. We started with these definitions because as designers, we don’t normally see specific design trends tailored for spring, fall, summer, or winter. The only thing you can really do is accessorize your area to reflect the season, with is something an interior decorator is more adept at helping you with.

What’s Trending?

If there’s something really trendy, doing it in your home like changing out your pillows for the season or your wall colors isn’t that difficult. There are usually trends more toward things like color palettes going in for the year, and those year trends can last a while such as classic white subway tile. Keeping those main elements in your space more timeless and classic like your flooring and cabinetry, which is what your designer helps you with, is the way to go.

If we had to pinpoint a popular design trend based on what many of our clients are looking for, that would be functionality, especially in the kitchen. Right now, cabinet companies are getting more creative with organizational tools you can find inside your cabinetry such as organizing your spices in a spice drawer or having sharp knives available for those who like to cook. Organization tools for your kitchen, and bathroom too, is very popular right now.

Popular in Colors

Blue is a popular trend in color. We’re seeing a lot of combinations of color tones in kitchens. There is a lot more blue in cabinetry right now. Navy blue has been popular for a while but will probably stay around for a while. Accenting that with a honey oil gold seems to be popular right now with hardware too. An easy thing to do to change up your space is to update your hardware every now and then. Something as simple as updating cabinet hardware completely changes the look of your space.

Are you looking for an interior designer or an interior decorator? If structural changes are needed (such as removing walls, moving plumbing, or adding new windows or doors), then an interior designer (that’s us!) is the better choice. Designers can help plan for significant structural changes and help make them happen by working directly with architects and builders. On the other hand, if you’re only looking for aesthetic help like choosing wallpaper, paint, or furnishings, you’re better off with an interior decorator.
