Pets & Remodeling
Living through a remodel can be challenging for everyone in your home, and your pets are no exception. Imagine how having a bunch of noisy houseguests can affect them. As a team of pet lovers, we’ve complied a guide to help you care for your animals while your home is underdoing your remodel.
Safety First
For their safety, your pets should be kept away from the work areas. Keep your pet in a closed room during the day that workers don’t need access to. You of course also have the option of boarding them at a kennel or dropping them off at a pet resort for the length of the remodel so that they’re completely out of the way. If they have to stay home, look into getting some safety gates for an extra level of protection to keep them away from the work zones.

Introduce your Pets to the Workers
If your pet (dogs specifically) will be at home while the work is being done, have a meet and greet. This will help your pet and the workers get acquainted with one another, which will hopefully lead to less barking down the road for you.
Consider Hazardous Fumes
Pets are typically more sensitive to fumes than we are, so be sure you’re aware of when in the project there may be potentially harmful fumes (like floor refinishing). If you’re not sure, just talk with your contractor about it so they can keep you informed.
When it comes down to it, you know your pet best. If they’re sensitive to noise or strangers, it may be best to move them out of the house during the remodel. Another great idea is to plan a few fun trips on the louder, busier days of your remodel where you and your pet can go for a walk or spend some time outside of the home.
